Volunteer at the CSULB Global Festival & Concert

Be part of one of CSULB’s signature cultural celebrations! The CSULB Global Festival & Concert brings together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to celebrate global cultures through music, performances, food, exhibits, and interactive experiences.

Volunteering is a great opportunity to support cultural engagement, build leadership skills, gain event experience, and connect with the campus community. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

Volunteer Roles

Logistics Team

Support event operations before, during, and after the festival.

Responsibilities:

Assist with event set-up and tear-down 

Distribute supplies and equipment 

Support stage and venue preparation 

Assist vendors, exhibitors, and performers with check-in, booth needs, and unloading 

Help maintain event spaces throughout the day 

Ideal for: Volunteers who enjoy hands-on work, organization, and event operations.

Volunteer Roles

General Event Support Team

Serve as ambassadors for the festival and assist attendees.

Responsibilities:

Welcome guests and provide directions 

Parking lot guides and wayfinding 

Staff information booths 

Assist with attendee questions 

Support registration and check-in areas (for vendors)

Help monitor event spaces and report issues to staff 

Guide attendees through exhibit areas 

Support ID checks at Beer Garden and monitor the entrance/exit

Ideal for: Friendly volunteers with strong communication skills.

Food & Hospitality Team

Support food vendors and hospitality areas. Help maintain a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible event. 

Responsibilities:

Assist with dining area maintenance by keeping seating areas clean and organizedSupport hospitality needs for performers, speakers, and VIP guests Monitor supply levels and communicate needs to event staffMonitor waste, recycling, and compost stations Encourage sustainable event practicesSupport post-event breakdown and site restoration

Ideal for: Volunteers passionate about sustainability and campus stewardship. Volunteers who enjoy customer service and hospitality.

Assist with performances and concert operations.

Beach Nexus Mentoring and Networking Platform

Beach Nexus is CSULB's official mentoring and networking platform. Join your peers to connect with students, faculty, and other alumni as you navigate your professional journey. Get a chance to share your experience and influence your connections with the incredible things you've done so far!

Beach Nexus is where we come together as a community to support each other in a meaningful way. 

Some ways you can help:

Demystify careers by providing insight on what jobs are actually like Share what helped you achieve your career goals Provide students with experiences, such as offering job shadowing and internship opportunities. We invite alumni professionals from all sectors to share their journeys and industry observations that will help prepare the next 49er for a success in their field. How is your industry evolving? How should new graduates prepare? What might you have done different if you were entering your field today?

The 49er Industry Chat series allows you to share your professional story in a 45-minute online chat. Once you sign up, you will be contacted by a member of the Alumni team to discuss scheduling and to provide us with a photo, short bio, and title for your chat so that we can market your chat to current students and recent alumni.

Sharing your story allows Beach students and alumni alike to understand and explore the many career paths and options that a degree from the Beach provides!

Don't feel up to sharing your own journey, but still interested in bringing this great resource to the Beach Community? We are also recruiting for chat moderators as well! Sign up for this opportunity and indicate to the member of the Alumni team that you are interested in moderating.

CSULB Alumni Networks offer alumni engagement opportunities that connect alumni skills and expertise with activities and events that support and advance CSULB and its global community.

 

In consultation with the Office of Alumni Engagement and by working with the Assistant Director of Alumni and Affinity Engagement, you can establish a group/network on Beach Nexus, CSULB’s exclusive online mentoring and professional network that connects alumni, students and community.  

 

Networks can be established based on:

Department or Academic Discipline  Career  Region  Culture  Extracurricular interests (Sports, Art, Clubs)  Identity-based interest (First-Generation, Young Alumni, Emeriti, Veterans)

 

Joining an alumni network can foster lifelong connections, provide professional and personal development opportunities, enhance networking, and contribute to the university's reputation. By taking a leadership role and founding a network, you will leave a lasting legacy at the Beach that will impact the lives of 49ers for generations to come!

Are you a fantastic host? Do you love getting together over dinner and/or drinks? Are you interested in building community and helping Beach alumni connect? Then Dinner with 12 is perfect for you!

Dinner with Twelve 49ers brings alumni together around the table over a shared meal and a shared Beach experience. In this unique program, Beach alumni from across the career-journey timeline come together over casual conversation discussing their experiences in a specific industry. This is an opportunity for Beach alumni to learn about one another, build their network, and share tips and tricks on everything from navigating the job market after college and to planning one's professional path.

Whatever your industry, Beach alumni across SoCal in the same industry would love to connect!

 

What to expect as a host: 

By responding to this opportunity, you are letting us know of your interest in hosting a meal where 12 alumni can join, ask questions, and network. Volunteers who decide to become a host would be responsible for the cost of the meal (meals can be kept simple) When confirmed as a host, volunteers will be able to communicate: Date and time of when you are available to host What career path(s) or industries they are interested in hosting If they are going to co-host with another person The Alumni office will contact hosts to coordinate details and answer questions
